i really do heart new york.
Hooray! I came back to Brooklyn for a visit this week, and naturally had a blast. Okay I did a yoga workshop too, alright?!? Don't bother me, I know I've got a yoga problem. It started at 7am for five days in a row, which was pretty brutal. I truly despise getting on the subway before 6:30 in the morning, unless I've been out all night. But on the sunny side, you always get a seat because no one else is crazy enough to commute that early in the morning.
I visited my favorite local haunt in my old neighborhood, B61 (yes it's a bus route but it's also a bar). Nothing much has changed there. Even if it did, would it really matter after a couple of beers?
I also visited my favorite seasonal haunt in the hood, the Gowanus Yacht Club. No, it's not nearly as fancy as it sounds, it's just a fenced-in patch of concrete with a bunch of picnic tables and a grill and lots of PBR in a can. The beauty lies in its simplicity, it's a great place to hang with friends on a warm summer evening. And they've got great pickles.

Next I'm heading westward along a northern route, which I am very very very excited about! Currently I am in Indiana Dunes National Park, which is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. This is my first great lake-ing experience, I know that people who are not from a coast say that this is just like the beach but I don't buy it... yet. It's now around 11pm and I just got here so I guess I'll have to let you know later because I don't feel like going for a dip by myself in a giant lake after sundown in the middle of nowhere. Fancy that!
The drive today through Pennsylvania and Ohio was incredibly boring and ugly, definitely the most non-pretty drive so far. My apologies to those states but really, your highways leave much to be desired in the way of scenery. Indiana looks prettier but kind of smells like horses in a bad way, I'll let you know how I feel about it during daylight hours. Middle America, I haven't given up on you yet!
